FAQ

ABOUT MY STUDENTS

WHAT AGES DO YOU TEACH?

Ages 4 and up, although starting as early as ages 4-6 is an exception. I find it ideal to start earlier as that is when kids are the most imaginative, have the most time to explore their creativity, and are developing their conceptions of themselves.

DO YOU TEACH ADULTS?

Yes. My oldest student is a 57-year-old CEO. You are never too young or too old to improve your ability to speak and write with power and eloquence, to find your purpose and passion in life, and to inspire others, including your employees.

DO YOU HELP COMPANIES?

Yes. Clarissa gives motivational speeches, helps CEO’s find their mission, and can help you inspire your employees. Because of her love of words and stories, she also helps companies with branding, marketing, and PR.

DO YOU ONLY WORK WITH GENIUSES?

No. I actually do not believe in genius, but in the power of developing useful creative skills over time. I teach everyone from the troubled to the prodigy and everyone in between.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

HOW DO I GET ACCEPTED INTO YOUR PROGRAM?

We meet for a first lesson, and we assess if I can help you. It’s great if you have talent, but what I’m really seeking is attitude and industriousness.

WHERE ARE THE CLASSES HELD?

Either at my studio in Irvine or at your house, but I do charge for driving time. I also Skype worldwide. Some of my students I’ve helped transform I’ve never met in person.

HOW LONG IS YOUR PROGRAM?

Some of my students discovered me as juniors or seniors, which means I helped them for a shorter duration, while others start when they are four years old and stay with me until high school, college, and beyond. My students return for their grad school applications and when they get nominated for major industry awards. For some, this is a lifelong mentorship.

WHEN IS YOUR PROGRAM?

It is year-round.

WHAT IS YOUR PROGRAM?

IS THERE A CONTRACT?

No. I only want my students to stay if they want to be here. Ironically, most end up staying 10-15 years.

HOW OFTEN ARE THE LESSONS?

Generally an hour a week unless you wish to improve faster. Students who take multiple hours a week tend to crave more time to create beautiful and useful things, are working on a novel and wish to make rapid progress, or are working on college applications.

HOW LARGE ARE THE CLASSES?

One-on-one. Occasionally, I help two students in one session but it depends on their personalities. I may do group classes in the future.

WHAT IF I AM SHORT ON MONEY & TIME?

Although changing habits and mindsets and building valuable skills is done over time, some of my students have time and budget constraints and cannot take regular lessons. Therefore, they come for strategy sessions (i.e. What unique activities should I choose and impactful projects should I create? How should I spend my summers to explore and create value?) and to work on specific creative and charitable projects. Or, they come to work on college applications.

IS THERE HOMEWORK?

The Imaginate Ink Program is about learning unique habits of excellence that will give you valuable skills throughout life. This involves listening to certain things and doing certain things that are different from your peers. Even if you do this for 15 minutes a day while you’re in the car or in the bathroom, that adds up to 100 hours a year of valuable wisdom or skills you are developing. If you choose not to do this, you will still progress from what we accomplish during the lessons. However, those who supplement their lessons with new habits will improve faster.

HOW DOES YOUR PROGRAM WORK?

For young people, if we have the gift of time, we begin with creative writing and finding your child's passion, then move to literary criticism and persuasive essays as your child grows older. Your child will also try out for contests and publication opportunities to build little victories over time and learn grit when things don’t go our way. We will also do things that cause us to step out of our comfort zones to find out who we are. Lastly, we will build creative humanitarian projects based on your children’s passions so they will learn to create and give. The side benefit of all this unusual effort is my students become unique and valued candidates when they apply to college, and later go on to become creative and impactful people.

For adults, we can work on creative writing, building businesses, finding your passion, or whatever it is you wish to do to live with passion and purpose.

For companies, I can help motivate your employees by helping you find your mission and helping them develop habits of excellence and "delivering wow."  I can also help you with coming up with marketing campaigns that tell your story in innovative ways.
